LEARN MORE & SUPPORT

In fall 2020, Camp Tamarack launched its High School Outdoor Leadership program with the support of a Roundhouse grant.

The new program involves primitive camping expeditions to give students an opportunity for in-person connection, community and learning new skills outside.

Carrie Campbell, Camp Tamarack’s Outdoor Leadership Instructor, shared these reflections with Roundhouse:

It’s powerful to see how bringing together a small group of high schoolers around a campfire for a couple of nights of fun games and shared reflections on their lives this year, just before going to sleep in tarp shelters under the stars — and sometimes under the rain — can dissolve the mental weight that students have been carrying. Everyone gets the opportunity to laugh, enjoy themselves, build friendships, and appreciate the moment and the beauty of nature around us.”

Camp Tamarack plans to continue offering outdoor activities for students, including snowshoeing in the winter and hiking in the spring and summer.
