HEALTHY FOOD BANKS, HEALTHY COMMUNITIES
Food insecurity is a growing issue in our country, state, and right here in our backyard. Many friends and neighbors are just one pay check away from needing to lean on the food bank for support.
Food banks are a staple of rural and remote communities, ready to ensure folks have the nourishment and essentials they need, should they ever need it.
It’s no secret that in rural communities, some people are just making ends meet, and should their car break down, their roof spring a leak, or their health falter—their family would need additional support—and they would be welcome at their local food bank.
Some people may never need food bank services, while other folks remember hard times their families experienced, and how the food bank relieved their hunger—so they could show up and stay focused in school and at work.
It’s important that friends and neighbors have access to food when they need it—especially in rural and remote areas, where residents experience food insecurity at a rate of 21%, compared to 12% in urban areas.
That’s why the Roundhouse Foundation committed $6 million dollars to invest in rural Oregon food banks over the next 3 years. And we hope to inspire others to do the same.
