Ranch Caretaker

Ranch Caretaker for Pine Meadow Ranch
Status:Regular, Full time, Hourly
Hours: 40 hours per week
Reports to: Trustee and/or Project Director

About the Foundation: The Roundhouse Foundation supports creative projects and organizations through art, environmental conservation, social services, community leadership and education. Pine Meadow Ranch, a 200+ acre historic ranch less than a mile from the center of town, is a project of the Roundhouse Foundation. 

Position Overview: The Ranch Hand at Pine Meadow Ranch must be a self starter with enough Ranch experience to self identify and prioritize issues for effective Ranch operations. The person in this position should have some basic understanding of irrigation and pumps, construction and small engine repair.  

The Ranch Caretaker reports directly to a Roundhouse Trustee and/or Project Director. This person is directed to perform work related to the day to day operation and maintenance of the grounds of Pine Meadow Ranch.

The Ranch Caretaker is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean environment for the entire property. This is to include buildings, homes, barns, greenhouse and other structures involved in the general operations of the ranch and of the foundation programs. 

Essential Job Functions and Duties: Manage and direct the maintenance, repair and cleaning of all properties located at Pine Meadow Ranch. 

  • Work well with staff, Trustees, volunteers and artists. 
  • Manage and direct disposal of all debris, litter and clutter left on grounds and in and around buildings along with the collection and disposal of leaves, rubbish and excess plant material from the facilities.
  • Manage the care of landscaped yards and forest areas trees, shrubs, lawn by watering, pruning, fertilizing and caring of flower beds.
  • Move gravel, dirt and manure.
  • Repair fences.
  • Mowing of grass.
  • Operate and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Operate and maintain the different irrigation equipment and systems which includes both farm and field irrigation with two types of water source pumps and two home landscaping varieties
  • Start irrigation systems to include laying out hand lines, servicing pivots, wheel lines and big guns. 
  • Shut down all irrigation at season end and winterize system in an acceptable manner.
  • Assist with inspection, repairs and operation of all irrigation equipment. 
  • Shut down water system to all buildings if needed.
  • Start and shut down swimming pool in an acceptable manner. Drag pastures.
  • Manage woodlot. Cut and stack firewood.
  • Burn refuse.
  • Identify equipment that needs repair or replacement and put on a schedule of priority.
  • Report any building, equipment, or property damage to the Roundhouse Trustee and/or Project Director.
  • Assist with cow operation as needed.
  • Keep vehicles, equipment and tools in good, safe operating condition including performing all preventative maintenance as needed e.g. Oil change, greasing, cleaning out air filters etc. Make SOP’s (standard operating procedures) for Ranch
  • Maintain a calendar of schedule of duties
  • Make repairs and build small scale construction and remodel projects. 
  • Snow removal
  • Manage/Assist with crops/gardens
  • Manage/Supervise Assistant Ranch Hand
  • Greet contractors and vendors and familiarize them with ranch as needed

Organized
General computer skills 

General carpentry skills 

Compensation: Hourly pay commensurate with experience. 

Working Conditions:  Outside exposure to varying temperatures and exposure to agricultural chemicals
Ability to lift 50+ pounds
Physical activity of all kinds on a daily basis

Ranch Hand

Status:Part-time, Hourly

Hours: 20 hours per week 

Reports to:Ranch Caretaker

Position Overview:  The Ranch Hand reports directly to Ranch Caretaker. If the Ranch Caretaker is not available, the ranch hand reports to the Roundhouse Trustee and Operations Manager. This person is directed to perform work related to the day to day operations and maintenances of the grounds of Pine Meadow Ranch. The Ranch Hand is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean environment for the entire property. This includes buildings, homes, barns, greenhouse and other structures involved in the general operations of the ranch and of the foundation programs. 

Essential Job Functions and Duties:  Assist with the maintenance, repair and cleaning of all properties located at Pine Meadow Ranch. 

Help with operation and maintenance of all irrigation equipment to include pumps, pivots, wheel lines, hand lines, big guns and individual irrigation lines and systems throughout the property.

Assist with the pickup and disposal of all debris, litter and clutter left on grounds and in and around buildings. 

Assist with the collection and disposal of leaves, rubbish and excess plant material from the facilities.

Assist with the care of trees, shrubs, lawn by watering, pruning, fertilizing and caring of flower beds. 

Move gravel, dirt and manure as required.

Fence repair as needed.

Mowing of grass as needed.

Operate and maintain tools and equipment in an acceptable manner as directed by the Supervisor.

Help with swimming pool maintenance and winterization. 

Drag pastures when needed.

Cut firewood when needed.

Report any building, equipment, or property damage to Supervisor. 

Assist with inspection, repairs and operation of all irrigation equipment.

Help with the cow operation as needed.

Help keep vehicles, equipment and tools in good, safe operating condition.
