Join Multidisciplinary Artist Sean Whalen in this community building sculptural project at Pine Meadow Ranch Center for Arts & Agriculture.
Over three sessions, participants will work together to create a sculptural windbreak on PMRCAA property. Working together, participants will gain knowledge and experience using natural and reclaimed materials in an architectural application. Get ready to dig in and build!
Project Outline:
- June 30th – Session 1: Participants will build the windbreak form using brush. Register here.
- July 1st – Session 2: Participants will plaster the brush form using natural materials. Register here.
- July 7th – Session 3: This is the final session of the project. During this session, participants will seal the windbreak for weathering protection. Register here.
About the Instructor:
Sean Whalen is an artist focused on building sustainable architecture using clay, wood, and other onsite materials. His work is rooted in community practices, pulling from long-standing traditions of community-led building, repair, and caretaking. Sean received his BFA from Kansas City Art Institute, with a focus in Ceramics and Social Practice.
